Traditional medicine, wellness products promote healthy living, says India diplomat

Indian High Commissioner, Arun Kumar Sahu has projected that there is no medicinal alternative to healthy living other than the use of traditional medicine and wellness products.

“The Covid-19 Pandemic has taught us that prevention is better than cure. There is no medicinal alternative to a healthy way of life and one of the essential ingredients to build a robust system of immunity is by using traditional medicine and products,” Sahu told of Dabur’s, India’s leading manufacturer of Ayurvedic products on Tuesday, March 15 at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Co-operation (MGICC), Mt. Hope.

Zain Shabbir. CEO of Dabur in America, said that Dabur will spend, “a significant amount of money to advertise the company’s range of products in the Trinidad market.”

Dabur planned to use a blend of traditional and social media platforms in its advertising campaign, adding that it will use local influencers to attract consumers.

Shabir added: “Dabur will also customize our marketing for this market. We will make sure that our consumer base, they would understand it and relate to it.” Shabir added that Dabur will also work with retailers and pharmacies to create displays and engage in products sampling, adding that Trinidad and Tobago will be the platform from which Dabur plans to enter markets in Suriname, Guyana, Jamaica, and other countries in the region. Dabur India has an annual revenue of over US 1 billion and a market capitalization of over US $5 billion.

President of the Pharmacy Board of Trinidad and Tobago, Andrew Rahman, pointed out that his organization supports the use of well-researched herbal products, as there is a growing demand for herbal products. Dr. Rajendra Kumar Navuru, managing director of Medi Choice Medical Limited, pointed out that there is an influx of consumers turning toward Ayurveda, despite the fact that it is a relatively new concept in western countries. He said that there are several ways in which Ayurveda can help to ward off diseases.

Among several persons attending were: MP for Couva South, Rudranath Indersingh, MP for San Juan/Barataria, Saddam Hosein, and Mayor of Chaguanas, Faaiq Mohammed.

Also addressing the assembly were Dr. C.H. Ramnarine of the Ishtara Health and Wellness Centre, and Glenwayne Suchit of Medi-Choice.
