Trini New Yorker Dr. Nicole Bissessar Honored by IDC

Dr. Nicole Bissessar of Trinidad was honored by Indian Diaspora Council for outstanding community service. The ceremony took place at Arya Samaj Gurukul in Jamaica, Queens. Her biography is below:

Dr. Nicole Bissessar was born in 1977 in a Trinidadian home. At the age of 14, she drew interest to the works of British economist John Maynard Keynes (1883–1946), who is regarded as the founder of modern macroeconomics. Before migrating to Boston, Massachusetts in August of 2003, Dr. Bissessar earned her Bachelors and Masters of Science in Economics at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. During the years of 1999 to 2008, she traveled to various nations studying and analyzing macroeconomic data and political systems of governance in developing nations. Upon completion of her Doctorate in 2008 from Clark University, MA, she continues in academia, publishing and teaching on economic theory and thought.

It wasn’t until the loss of a close a friend in 2012 did, she take residence in New York. It was here that she studied Sanskrit grammar and become a missionary of the Arya Samaj under her guru and Vedic Scholar Dr. Satish Prakash. She attained her Purohit Diploma in 2022 and has during her time in NY served her community at large as the Secretary of the Maharshi Dayananda Gurukula Inc, Administrator of MDG Vedic Studies Program and as an Assistant to SEVA Center for Humanity in Long Island. Annually she travels to her homeland of Trinidad & Tobago where she conducts and lectures on the Vedas as well as on Economic Theory at their Vedic Mission. During the year of 2022 she made headway in her seva work with Blankets4Vets Mission, Domestic Violence Training Advocacy Program with the NYPD, SEVA and the District Attorney Office. She also makes contributions to Nassau County Juvenile Detention Center, and various Mandirs in the Caribbean where she distributes clothing, and essentials to those in need.
