US House Cmmttee Chair Stresses Close Rels with Guyana

The USA Embassy in Guyana issued the below release on the visit of several members of a very powerful US House Committee — The House Ways and Means Committee that is responsible for all budgetary matters. The House is led by Republicans who won a majority of seats in the latest elections. The Republicans, based on House rules, have a majority of members in the committee.

The Chairman of the committee is Jason Smith (MO-08) — of Missouri, 8th Congressional District. He led a bipartisan delegation (Democrats and Republicans) of the Ways and Means Committee to Guyana. The committee members met with Guyanese President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo. Chairman Smith shared his interest in America’s participation in Guyana’s energy production. The USA has a serious interest in Guyana’s energy sector with American companies heavily investing in the sector.
