Eight Indian Guyanese were selected for a tour of India through the Know India Program (KIP). The program has been in existence for over a decade.
Dozens of Guyanese were chosen for and experienced the program. The High Commission of India in Georgetown, Guyana selected eight Guyanese Nationals for what is the 61st edition of the ‘Know India Programme (KIP)’. The group left Guyana for Gujarat, India, last week. This programme is conducted between 29th September and16th October 2022 in India.

The High Commission of India in Georgetown, Guyana has selected eight Guyanese Nationals for the 61st edition of the ‘Know India Programme (KIP)’ to go to Gujarat, India. This programme will be conducted between 29th September and16th October 2022 in India. The selected participants are Mr. Themeshwar Parmanand- Research Technician from East Coast Demerara, Mr. Stephen Seeraj- Research Technician from East Bank Demerara, Mr. Yudister Gharbaran- Special Projects Officer from East Bank Demerara, Mr. Vish Kistama- 2021 CAPE student from Berbice, Ms. Hema Manniram- Secretary from East Bank Demerara, Ms. Sarah Bovell- Legal Assistant from Georgetown, Ms. Indy Ramnarine- Entrepreneur from East Bank Demerara, and Ms. Ravita Klass- Supervisor from East Coast Demerara.
On Friday, 23rd September, the High Commissioner Dr. KJ Srinivasa, met and interacted with the selected participants, briefed them on the programme, and encouraged them to make the best use of the initiative and to connect to their roots in India – the land of their ancestors. The participants were very appreciative and thanked the Government of India for the opportunity to visit India and expressed their enthusiasm to learn and explore more and get a first-hand experience of the fastest growing large economy and the current fifth largest economy in the world.
The programme provides local hospitality including boarding, transportation within India, and air tickets both ways between their country of residence and India. The participants will be visiting New Delhi for a 2-day orientation programme, Agra, and a select state (in this case Gujarat) in India along with visits to places of historical, economical, cultural, and religious significance. Participants will be meeting influencers, leaders, and various department officials to get an overview of India’s economy, society, ongoing growth, and development, etc.
‘Know India Programme’ is a flagship programme of the Ministry of External Affairs for engagement with the youth of Indian origin (between 18-30 years) to enhance their awareness of India, its rich cultural heritage, and exquisite art and to familiarise them with various aspects of contemporary India. The minimum qualification required for participating in KIP is graduation from a recognized University /Institute or enrollment into graduation and the ability to speak English. The requirement is that the applicant should not have visited India by using any Programme of the Government of India. Those who have not visited India before will be given preference.
In addition to the above, there is one more KIP for the year 2022, the 62nd KIP Edition. This is between the 1st and the 21st of November 2022 in Rajasthan. Applications received for this KIP before the due date are currently being reviewed. There will be many opportunities in the coming year to take part in KIP in the near future.
