On Kamla’s Speech in Trinidad

Phillip Alexander

Kamla Persad Bissessar in one speech has displayed how out of touch she is. She is disrespectful and arrogant, and while she may be chaining up her few remaining followers with small party talk, she knows and is afraid to tell them that a unification of what she calls the small parties will make the UNC irrelevant. She could feel like Hulk but in truth her leadership is a bunch of weak men and women that the PNM has been allowed to bully and get their way with every time. TWO Attorneys General that have flouted the law continue to eat cabinet food and drink cabinet wine. A Prime Minister doing what he wants with law and rights of citizens and nothing of substance from the elected opposition. Corruption runs amok in the land and the opposition sits quiet, mute and powerless. No thanks Kamla. The people want real champions to break the stranglehold of the PNM, not tired leaders reading from a script. On her watch the PNM was allowed to decimate the independence of both commissioner of police and the office of President. Her failure to capture the hearts and minds of already existing UNC members should be a red flag to the rest. There can be no unity with someone who is too disconnected to understand the feelings of the country. It is either she is delusional or surrounded by people talented enough that they can convince her that the UNC still commands the authority of those opposed. There is only loss and more loss for the UNC under Kamla and her band of drooling handlers. Phrasing the narrative that the problem is the PNM is to forget the same criminal corruption displayed by the UNC. The PNM may have beaten them at theft, but does not mean the UNC has not been corrupt and broke the public trust every chance they were given as well. Let it be known from sea to sea that there is life and hope outside those two corrupt and racist parties. Kamla has shrunk the UNC into a band of rabid sycophants who cannot maintain a mailing address but want to beat up on a pundit because he has a difference of opinion. Is that the new day she is offering? Where’s the vision? Where’s the road map? Sending Tim Gopeesingh skulking in the shadows to beg others for support is not a battle plan. People only fear victimization because they do not trust your representation to defend them. No thanks Kamla. On behalf of the growing mass of disenchanted citizens of every creed and race fed up of the politics of race and division who want a better country, the Progressive Empowerment Party says no thanks.
