We thank the Trump administration for its denouncement of Venezuela’s continuing threats and warning that, “Further provocation will result in consequences for the Maduro regime,” and France’s expressed concern over the recent March 1st incursion by a Venezuelan Coast Guard patrol ship in Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone near the Stabroek Block oil reservoir.
Like all right-thinking nations, we reiterate that Venezuela must respect Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the principles of international law and the International Court of Justice’s Order on December 1, 2023, stating that it must refrain from any unilateral action liable to alter the situation that currently exists off the coast of Essequibo. The comity of nations is alive and well.
