You may be wondering who is a haberdashery man. It is one who is a jack of all trade, more so one living by his wits or what some may call a survivor or smart man. While haberdashery men and women abound in our society, they generally amount to nothing. In most cases their outputs are more gas and less solid.
When Bhagavan Krishna wanted to offer his services in the Mahabharata he did not choose a haberdashery man but Arjuna, the greatest warrior in the land. And it was through Arjuna that Sri Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita to human kind because he knew that Arjuna would have the capacity to not only understand but also put his message to action and win the battle.
Gary Sobers, rated the best all-rounder in cricket, said that when the West Indies was touring Australia, the legendary Don Bradman would instruct him to make a hundred to keep the interest in the game alive. Why Gary Sobers when there were ten other players? It was only because he knew that Sobers was the best and would deliver on his requests.
The weakness in the world today is because we have failed to make ourselves competent leaders. We have distracted ourselves with gathering things instead developing specialized knowledge and skills that are in demand. Instead, we have opted to be the haberdashery man, living in the margins of society.
Unfortunately, many who can make a difference have opted to stay away from leadership roles. They unconsciously allow the Arjuna fever of self doubt to overcome them, thus giving way to the haberdashery men and women to take charge.
Our competent professionals must step forward and lead. They have the knowledge and experience to deliver like a Gary Sobers. It is about time that we demand that the haberdashery people step back and invite the more competent to hold the reins.
The Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi, is a product of discipline and service. He built his reputation by organizing and executing programs across the country with tens of thousands of participants. Today India is making strides under his leadership and even global leaders are admiring his efficient manner of delivering goods and services to the people of India.
There is no place in leadership for the haberdashery man and woman in the world today. The world demands leaders who are highly skilled and can deliver the goods and services like Arjuna, Gary Sobers and Narendra Modi.
