India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Tuesday morning held talks with Guyana Vice President of Guyana Bharrat Jagdeo, Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh, and Director General of Ministry of Agriculture Ramraj with a focus on ties in areas of trade, energy, and agriculture.
Dr Jaishankar tweeted that he and Jagdeo agreed that there will be greater frequency of India-CARICOM contacts that will further galvanize ties between India and the region. Jaishankar assured Jagdeo that concerns of the Global South (developing countries) will be strongly represented during India’s G20 Presidency”. India currently holds the G20 Presidency. A summit of the G 20 countries will be held in October in Delhi.
The Indian External Affairs Minister said he also discussed with Guyana Vice President “our historical relationship and greater opportunities in contemporary partnership, especially in trade, energy, agriculture, skills and people to people ties”.
