Indians are not a politically homogenized people. There are several groups and categories of Indians and they all think differently in terms of political thought and ideology. For example, there is a difference in thinking between Bharath Indians, Caribbean Indians and Africans Indians living abroad in North America and England.
In fact, most Indians from Bharath (India) and
the Caribbean tend to be leftists in the USA, Canada and England while Indians from Africa tend to be more Conservative and are supporters of the Tory party of England and the Republican party of the USA.
The Caribbean Indians and Bharath Indians got a heavy dose of indoctrination about Socialism / Communism
from their political leaders and intellects which they took in their migration overseas. Incidentally the Indians in Africa were mainly small and big business class people and had no prolong exposure to socialism or the labour movement.
Bharath Indians living abroad were highly Nehru oriented Socialists in their education. On the other hand Caribbean Indian leaders were Labor oriented political thinkers and politicians.
Both Caribbean and Bharath Indians living abroad always mingled with their Socialists heroes when they visited them in their adopted countries. By their many visitations to England,USA and Canada the Socialist kept these exiled Indians glued to their Socialist ideology.
Guyana’s President Dr Cheddi Jagan, Trinidad ‘s Prime Minister Basdeo Panday and the Congress Party of India would always hold dialogue with their offsprings which kept them in the Socialist leftists mold.
The African Indians who did not have exposure to a heavy dose of Socialisms were subjected to ethnic economic cleansing and as a result they were pushed out of Africa. They did not have any political heroes to follow them abroad; they were left to mold their own political narratives which ultimately left them to becoming Conservatives.
The African Indians were not part of any Labor Union or Political party and had no heroes like the Caribbean or Bharath Indians. To illustrate this point on ideology those Conservative Indians on the right are people like Rishi Sunak former Prime Minister of England and Conservative Party ministers Suella Bravermann and Pretti Patel of England and Kash Patel designated head of the FBI in the US whose families were kicked out of Africa . Unlike those aforementioned Indians, the Indo Caribbeans who were kicked out of their birthright countries still held on to leftists ideology because their leaders saw Capitalism as the problem and Marxism as the solution.
A perfect example of Indo – Guyanese leftist in England is the daughter of the famous Guyanese lawyer
Doodnauth Singh who embraces leftist ideals because of her father’ closeness to the PPP of Dr Jagan.
Most Bharath Indias abroad are stuck with the ideology of anti – imperialism due to their Nehru oriented Socialist education. Similarly, other Caribbean Indians leaders like Prime Minister Basdeo Panday of Trinidad and Indians intellectuals like Dr. Brinsely Samroo and other University of the West Indies (UWI) Professors were mainly leftists orientated who continued to plague the Indians domestically and abroad.
Conclusively, as long as Indians remain leftists they will be lost in the maize of politics.
