Invitation to participate in activities to mark 73rd Anniversary of Republic Day of IndiaHigh Commission of India, under the tenure of His Excellency High Commissioner Dr. KJ Srinivasa, Georgetown would be celebrating 73rd Anniversary of Republic Day of India on Thursday, 26th January 2023. A number of activities, spread over the period from Saturday 21st January to Sunday 29th January 2023, have been planned to mark the occasion. All Guyanese and Indian nationals are invited to participate. Entry is free. Registration is compulsory. 1. Kathak Dance Workshop (Saturday, 21.1.2023): Kathak is one of the most well-known classical dances of India. Originating a few centuries BC, in the northern India, Kathak dance is attributed to the ancient traveling bards or storytellers (kathakar in Hindi/sanskrit). The dance has been retained in its classical form as well as in improvised form by a line of devoted teachers. The Kathak dance workshop will be organized from 10 AM to 12:30 PM at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) . Ms. Varsha J. Chaudhari, Kathak Dance Teacher at SVCC would be explaining and demonstrating Kathak dance features to a group of dance enthusiasts.
2. Rangoli Competition (Sunday, 22.1.2023) : Rangoli is an ancient form of Art originating in the Indian subcontinent in which attractive patterns are created on the floor or tabletop using various material including, powdered lime stone, rice flour, flower petals, coloured powder, colored rice/grains and coloured sand. Rangoli has gained more popularity in modern times when it is encouraged particularly at the time of Hindu festivals in India. A competition is being organized at SVCC from 10 AM to 1230 PM for Rangoli Artistes who would be allocated a place in the building for the purpose. The makers of best Rangoli would be awarded.
3. Hindi Diwas Celebrations (Saturday, 28.1.2023): Hindi is now widely understood and spoken in many countries, particularly in Girmitiya countries. Therefore, The World Hindi Conference organized at Nagpur in 1975 adopted 10 January as World Hindi Diwas (Day) with the aim of propagation and promotion of the language. High Commission would be celebrating World Hindi Diwas this year on Saturday, 28.1.2023 at Indian Arrival Monument, Palmyra, Berbice. A cultural programme would also be organized at the occasion.4. Environment Awareness & Tree Planting Drive (Saturday, 28.1.2023) : Following completion of World Hindi Day observation, a Tree Planting drive would be organized at the Campus. The Drive would be led by the High Commissioner and other dignitaries.5. Blood Donation Drive (Sunday, 29.1.2023) : A Blood Donation Drive will be organized at Strathspey Mandir compound, ECD from 9 AM to 3 PM. A number of dignitaries are expected to participate.
6. Yoga Competition ( Sunday, 29.1.2023) : Yoga is a gift from the Ancient India to the modern world. It has widely been recognized to improve and keep the human body and mind healthy, particularly if adopted as a way of life. The High Commission and SVCC would be organizing a Yoga Competition at SVCC from10 AM to 1230 PM. Best performers would be awarded.
