Do you know that Ivor Archie was appointed CJ the day after the former CJ retired? There was no questioning of the process then. However, today Martin Daly and Lynette Sebaran-Suite are questioning the process in the recent appointment of Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh to the position of CJ of Trinidad and Tobago. Interestingly, the Leader of the Opposition had suggested that an acting CJ should have been appointed until the due process is followed.
This is the hypocrisy that pervades this land. What was the position of Martin Daly them. He was the President of the Law Association but had no comments then. However, today he has an issue with the process. May be Daly should point out to us exactly what that process is!
Seebaran-Suite raised alarm at the remarks made by the Prime Minister who charged that PNM eat ah food lawyer have been favored in the past. This is borne out with the recently revealed payments of $16M paid to lawyers representing the State in the Commission of Inquiry into the death of the divers at Paria when the government of the day failed to compensate the families for the loss of their bread winners.
All along the UNC raised concerns about the neglect of the victims by the State. However, I did not hear any concern raised by the Law Association. This masa day culture where the choicest parts of the hog are given to the privileged few while a foot and an ear are thrown for the slaves to make souse and pudding must be called. It is exactly this culture that Seebaran-Suite and Martin Daly are defending while the Prime Minister has chosen to fight tooth and nail to give everyone an equal opportunity to the treasury.
No wonder pudding and souse continue to prevail. It is only because large sections of the poor have never been given this opportunity to eat otherwise. I am happy that the PM can express her thought is this most crude manner. It is the surest way to expose this privilege eat ah food class which is the foundation of corruption in Trinidad and Tobago.
