Several delegations from the Indian Parliament (Lok and Rajjya Sabha), cutting across party lines, bipartisan support of 31 from ruling coalition and 28 from the opposition, 59 members, are traveling overseas, including Guyana, to explain India’s stance against terror and its launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’. Guyana is the headquarter for Caricom.
Each delegation is sent to a different set of countries to shed light on India’s position. The seven delegations altogether will visit 32 countries meeting their government officials to explain why India undertook Operation Sindoor on May 7 that continued till 10. The diplomatic delegation coming to Guyana already visited USA and successfully explained why India had to bomb terror camps inside Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
On April 22, Pakistani trained terrorists attacked a tourist site in India killing 26 males, asking each to prove they were not Muslim. India asked Pakistan to rein in terrorists and close down terror camps. Pakistan has refused to act against the terrorists. Pakistan has denied terror camps are operating in its territory. But India has accused Pakistan of developing terrorism.
The Guyana government condemned the terror attacks and sent words of support and sympathy to the Indian government. There were many terror attacks prior to that one. The terrorists were and are trained, guided, and financed from Pakistan. The international community also condemned the attack.
The goal of the global diplomatic outreach mission is to put forth India’s resolve to fight terrorism. The delegation will explain what transpired in the April attack, operations of the Pakistani terror outfits elsewhere, training camps in Pakistan, their murderous activities, and India’s armed forces’ success under Operation Sindoor in eliminating the camps. Some nine camps were attacked and destroyed. Several terrorists were killed.
India’s brilliant orator and scholar, Shashi Tharoor, is leading the delegation in Guyana. He is from the Opposition Congress Party. He is among the most learned in Indian and European history and in political science. He is a brilliant orator. He was elected five terms to parliament beginning in 2004 and served as State Minister of External Affairs.
Dr Tharoor asserted that India had exhausted all diplomatic options, and with Pakistan’s continued denial and inaction on terror. “Operation Sindoor proves India’s resolve to respond precisely to terrorism. said Dr Tharoor, a former UN Undersecretary. He pointed out that ‘India showed with Operation Sindoor that we can get back at Pakistan with a degree of precision’. He added: “We hit hard but hit smart,”
Several Pakistan military bases and jets were also destroyed after they attacked India fighter jets. Chinese built jets and hundreds of drones supplied by China and Turkey launched against India were destroyed by India defense shield.
On May 10, Pakistan appealed to foreign powers to intervene to end India’s military operations. Pakistan was suffering huge losses. India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire understanding, stopping all military actions against each other on land, sea, and air.
The delegates talking point is clear on terror — that India is a peace loving nation but will no longer stand quiet if terrorists attack India. Prime Minister Modi, who visited Guyana last October, said India will launch operations against any neighbor that uses its territory to train and send terrorists against India. Terrorists must not have safe havens. India must hit hard. The Indian diaspora supports Modi’s position. It is not forgotten that terrorists attacked America multiple times. Some two dozens Guyanese were slaughtered in the 9/11 attack and dozens injured. Guyanese were also injured in other terror attacks in USA. This, Guyanese diaspora support India.
Our government must accord a warm welcome to the visiting parliamentary delegation from India and pledge our continuing support against terror. India has been generous in development aid. We must reciprocate with support against terror. President Ali is commended for sending words of supports to PM Modi. He must publicly pledge our support to combat global terror.
