Indian Arrival Day unintentionally has been celebrated with misinformation as to why Indians left Bharat and came to the Caribbean. Why is it a day of celebration?
There are those Indians in TRINIDAD and GUYANA who have this saying ‘thank God’ that their forefathers made the decisions to leave Bharat because of poverty and lack of upward opportunities.’ The celebrations itself are only directed at one oppressor.
Those Indians who say ‘ thank God we left Bharat’ are ignorant of Bharat’s History. They are unaware that Bharat was made poor by Muslims and European invaders by looting Bharat’s economy. Before invasion, Bharat’s economy was 25% of the Global economy. After Independence in 1947 Bharat’s economy was reduced to 3% of global GDP. The conquers of Bharat forced Indians by design to leave Bharat.
The’ celebrations’ of Indian Arrival Day should not be about ‘thank God we left Bharat’. It should be about our survival as an Indian Race against past and present odds.
It should be about our very existence as an Indian race and our achievements.
The Indian Race must not only focus on past history but also examine its present status and what is to become of our future in our respective country.
We Indians in Trinidad, Guyana and Surinam must be proud to celebrate our survival as a race with our culture intact for generations. We must own our Destiny as part of this Celebrated Day.
