From the desk of Jai Lall
Region 3 is quickly becoming the economic hub for the engine growth in Guyana. The village of Leonora on the West Coast of Demerara, was again in the limelight over the weekend. Two weeks ago, the President, Dr. Irfaan Ali had opened a brand new state of the art Sheriff Hospital. Keeping in line of the medical field, the 18th Chinese Medical Brigade visited this growing village and held a free medical clinic. In conjunction with the lions from the West Demerara Lions Club and the members from the Leonora Unity Baptist Church, a team of 14 doctors led by Dr. George Chu saw scores of residents from all walks of life and treated them for various illnesses. Some of the clinics held include Orthopedics, TCM acupuncture, gynecology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, pediatrics, pathology, internal medicine, general surgery, blood pressure measure, blood sugar and cholesterol. The residents were overjoyed and thankful for the Chinese team visiting the rural area. President of West Demerara Lions Club, Lion Chase Pedro, expressed the Club’s appreciation for the Chinese team reaching out to the neighborhood and providing this vital humanitarian service. He also thanked the Leonora Unity Baptist Church for accommodating this clinic, lions from Durban Park Lions Club for their support and a number of civic minded community members who volunteered their time and labor to make the project successful. Also, the Chinese Team held an exhibition, featuring pictures of other successful outreaches orchestrated by the 18th Medical Brigade, throughout Guyana.
Yours respectfully,
Jai Lall.
