INews, the Guyana internet publication, reported on November 24 that Berbician Evelyn Ramrup of Lot 56 Palmyra Village, East Berbice, celebrated her 100th birthday that Thursday.
She is well known as ‘Aunty Ivy’ . She was born on November 23, 1923, at Port Mourant, married at age 16 and moved to Palmyra with her new spouse who died some 42 years ago in his 70s.
She observed the 100th birthday milestone with her surviving children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She had six children, two of whom passed away.
INews reported that she is is being cared for by eldest daughter, 81-year-old Jean Jailall.
Since a teenager, Aunty Ivy planted and harvested rice with a grass knife. She worked at the Port Mourant Sugar Estate before getting married.
The couple had six children, two of whom are now deceased.
Her husband passed away 42 years ago, in his 70s.
‘INews stated that Ivy’s mother passed away in her 30s and her lone brother passed away at age 75.
The centenarian reportedly told celebrants that when she passes away, she does not want them to cry.
