As part of its outreach engagement with Guyanese in the diaspora, Exxon-Mobil collaborated with ACE Consulting, a Guyanese company, engaged potential Guyanese investors at a public forum at Florida International University (FIU) in late November. The forum is part of a series by the company and the government of Guyana “to strengthen Guyana’s Global Future Through Diaspora Engagement”. Similar engagements were held in Washington and New York. Others are planned for Toronto and London and other cities where Guyanese predominate.
At FIU, Ace Consulting Chair, Dr. Rosh Khan, stated that ExxonMobil Guyana engages in community outreach and diaspora forums in to discuss investment and job opportunities related to Guyana’s oil and gas boom. He noted that these efforts are co-organized by ACE Consulting to inform Guyanese about business prospects in their homeland while at the same time appealing to Guyanese to join the government in its vision 2025 program of development of Guyana. ExxonM works in collaboration with Guyanese-American business organizations and Guyanese government to promote investment.
The various forums inform Guyanese about opportunities for investment in Guyana. ExxonM, like all foreign companies operating in Guyana, are required to have local suppliers and use local content; Guyanese in the diaspora are considered as local content once they have businesses registered in Guyana. The Guyana government encourages the diaspora to contribute to the social and economic progress of the country through its expertise and investment. Exxon has been partnering with local entities going back to 2015.
The discussions at FIU focused on the economic opportunities in Guyana in all areas, not just in oil and gas. The oil and gas industry is fueling other industries. ExxonM and the government are encouraging diaspora to contribute their skills and other resources in various sectors beyond oil and gas.
ACE Chair Dr Rosh Khan highlighted the critical role of the diaspora in contributing to investment opportunities in supporting Guyana’s long-term development vision.
The forum mentioned opportunities in various power projects and deep harbor projects, including Berbice as an industrial hub.
A company spokesperson, Dan Ammann, said: “ExxonMobil, in collaboration with the people and government of Guyana, we’ve helped build a thriving new oil-and-gas industry in the country that is creating jobs, supplier opportunities, profits and follow-on investments.”
It is noted that “there are currently some 6,200 Guyanese working in support of Stabroek block operations — which is about 70% of the workforce. ExxonMobil Guyana and its contractors have spent more than US$2.9 billion with Guyanese suppliers since 2015. In the first half of 2025 alone, GY$87 billion was spent directly with 1,800 local vendors, reinforcing the company’s dedication to local content development through significant investments in local businesses, workforce training, and community-development initiatives”.
The company also provides career opportunities relating to oil and gas as well as related areas; diaspora members are invited to apply for positions.
Attendees at the FIU event left with valuable insights into business opportunities and ways in which the diaspora can contribute to development.
