Dear Editor,
Please allow me to publicly apologize for “extremely upsetting” Eric Moseley, MS, as he pronounced in his response to me, in your edition of 19th February.
I was accused of being ‘disastrous and dangerous’ for my recollection of history. At least, I mentioned names, which he failed to do, and which can be verified, as accurate reflections of history. The conscience is something that can “prick” you and I suspect that is exactly what happened to Eric, causing him to be ‘upset” at my mention of those who led the incidents of BLACK FRIDAY, and those who refused to curb the mayhem, by the statement of “who calls off the dog owns the dog”. Let YOUR memory do some research and come up with the author of that statement, Eric.
I have a different historical conception of the Sun Chapman and the Abrams family disasters, and recently had a discussion with someone who was closely aligned to the UF and it’s leader at that time, and who assigned the latter incident to someone who now calls himself ‘Elder” and portrays the image of a saint, when ALL Guyana know of his doings and responsibility in THOSE turbulent times of the 60’s and after.
With respect to the former mentioned, I’ve heard that “things” were being ferried up river, when the explosion happened, and further I say no more.
NOTHING can erase the images of those human beings, as they lay on beds at the makeshift accommodation at Ruimveldt, after going through “hell on earth” in Wismar.
Eric Moseley, you have accused me of using the media to ‘add salt” to OUR wounds, but check YOUR letter and determine if it is “sugar coated”. I agree OUR wounds need healing, but to do so, OUR history CANNOT be forgotten. ALL have to HONESTLY RECOGNISE and ACKNOWLEDGE where WE took the wrong fork in the road, starting with the 50’s, when we had a united movement, striving for Independence and the betterment of ALL GUYANESE, and who was responsible for that unity of the masses to be disrupted/shattered.
I sense that I’ve touched a nerve, and can recommend as a remedy the honest recognition of the past. Constipation of the mind and conscience also need exorcising.
ALL FOR HEALING NOT HURTING.
Yours truly,
Harry Narine Nawbatt
