A memorial service was held in Smokey Park, Richmond Hill, Queens, on Sunday afternoon May 28 for the victims of the fire tragedy in Guyana. Arson claimed the lives of nineteen children at a secondary school dormitory in Mahdia town, in the hinterland of Guyana. Hundreds of thousands of Guyanese live in New York. Richmond Hill is an Indian Guyanese town. Several memorial services were held over the last week in the area to pray for the victims. Speakers commend the Guyanese community in Queens for uniting in grief.
Last Sunday’s service was planned and organized by Queens Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, Romeo Hitlal, and others.
