One of the most powerful programs on GlobeSpan happened Wednesday night April 8. Veteran politician and scholar Prof. Paul Tennassee and LJP leader Lennox Shuman launched a trenchant critique of Gecom and the ruling PNCR clique over their refusal to accept the outcome of democratic elections held on March 2.
Tennassee who was the leader of the PDM party (and is not a member of any Guyana political party), but who heads the ‘think tank’ group called Roraima, declared categorically that the PPPC won the 2020 elections based on Gecom-issued SOPs. This position was also reinforced by LJP Presidential candidate and leader Lennox Schuman. A few days ago on GlobeSpan, ANUG (another party that contested the elections) chairman Timothy Jonas also chided David Hinds (of APNU) for skirting around the central issue and for ignoring the reality that the PPPC won the 2020 elections. Of course Hinds will never admit that. He, like so many of his colleagues, is scared of the truth.
All the political parties, diplomats, observers, the international community, and the overwhelming majority of Guyanese know that the PPPC won the elections. In Freddie’s column of April 9th (today), he stated that on March 3, 2020, the PNCR knew that they lost the elections and the only option opened to them to remain in power, was to rig the results of the tabulation process of the last region votes to be declared, I.e., region 4. It was a clumsy effort at rigging in the full view of party agents, diplomats, observers, the Guyanese people and the world. Dictators have no shame.
Paul blasted Gecom’s Chair Ms Claudette Singh for being indecisive and for allowing the tabulation situation to deteriorate, and placed her in the same category (biased, unfair, partisan) as Harry Bollers, a former Gecom Chair. Bollers was a master rigger for Forbes Burnham, the late dictator.
The critical issue is that the interim administration has no legitimacy. Guyanese on the whole do not trust them, particularly since their enforcement arm, Gecom Secretariat, staged a daring daylight coup d’etat in the full view of the world at Gecom Command Center.
Shuman also alluded to a Chronicle (government newspaper) article which stated that Cabinet ministers will not take a pay cut. He said that since the dissolution of Parliament, there was no Cabinet. How could they continue as a Cabinet and to flout the constitution with scorn? Paul reminded Shuman and the audience that the PNCR has turned the system into a dictatorship, similar to the Burnham period. History is repeating itself.
About PNC Commissioner Vincent Alexander’s role at Gecom! He wants to be a champion of the PNCR party so that he could eventually lead it. Paul mentioned how he (Alexander) had challenged Granger for that position. By setting up himself as a champion of the PNCR as reflected in his ongoing battle to complete the rigging of the 2020 elections, in collusion with Gecom Sectetariat, Alexander can boast that no other PNCR official has done more than himself to rig the 2020 elections! That type of electoral fraud will be his credential to the PNCR leadership!
The vote recount could easily be done in less than 2 weeks. But PNCR aligned Gecom is trying to give their principals, PNCR, more time in governing, as they did with the NCM. This will, they hope, provide them with an opportunity to tamper ballot boxes or to switch them as well as to get rid of international observers. These are the people who said nonchalantly (and they placed banners prominently at various places countrywide to magnify this creed) that their leader is honest and decent and one who does not abuse the rule of law and the constituion! What a colossal deception! Never before have I seen such a vulgar abuse of language to justify wanton aberrations?
The bottom line is: will Guyana allow a group that only constitutes 29% of the country’s population to take over the country via coup d’etat?
