The President of Guyana is commended for his swift response in condemning the terror attack in India on April 22. regrettably, faith was the factor whether one live or die.
Faith was the factor that determined whether one was killed or spared by terrorists as per the attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, India. That attitude must be condemned. It was reported that the victims were asked about their religion. If the response was Islam, it was corroborated by checking the private parts of the males. Those not verified as Muslim as well as those who claimed to be Hindus or Christians were executed. The attack is a crime against humanity and religious tolerance; the attackers have depraved minds and must be condemned. On this note, I commend our government for condemning the attack.
The Guyana Democracy Project, based in New York, also strongly condemns the April 22 Pahalgam malicious terror attack in a tourist area that killed 26 male tourists and injured several others. This was one of the worst terror attacks against innocent people who went to a recreation area for its peace, tranquility, relaxation and celebrations. So many needlessly lost their lives. So many are hurting deeply and painfully by their terror attack. We mourn those killed and injured and share sincere prayers and condolences with the families of loved ones.
The Guyana Democracy Project also expresses its deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims as well as to the Governments of India (25) and Nepal (1). It urges the government of India to hold the perpetrators and their sponsors accountable.
An Islamic terror group, tied to terror groups in Pakistan, claimed responsibility. India’s government blamed the government of Pakistan for the attack and the tack was taken up by the UN Security Council where it was also condemned. India has committed to a fitting response, resolving that the perpetrators, planners and backers of this attack must be brought to justice.
Besides President Ali, leaders around the globe, including President Trump, issued statements condemning the brutal attack. As they all said, this savage, barbaric assault committed in the name of faith against civilians has no place in our world.
The Guyana Democracy Project condemns this egregious violent attack against people based on their faith in India by murderous terrorists. It notes that violent acts can never be justifiable. This despicable act of violence does not belong in a civilized society. Killing people on account of their faith and simply because they don’t belong to your faith must be denounced by all. On this note, the organization salutes President Irfaan Ali and Foreign Minister Hugh Todd for deploring the terror attack; for expressing profound condolence with the victims, people and government of India; and for their words of solidarity with the government of India in combating terror. President Ali communicated with Prime Minister Modi and Foreign Minister Hugh Todd spoke with India’s Foreign Minister Dr. Jaishankar condemning the terror attack and the need to combat terrorism in all forms and manifestations.
The Pahalgam and other terror attacks are a threat to peace, stability, and security. India must make every effort and take all measures to combat religious terror and ensure appropriate punishment for those responsible for this attack.
