Dear Editor,
I will greatly appreciate if you can publish my response to an article published in another newspaper that heaped scorn on Guyana having close ties with America. The Guyana government Chronicle, the public’s newspaper, has not carried my response.
In comments (Feb 17) in the state newspaper, Guyana Chronicle, one Freddie Kissoon disparaged, mocked, and ridiculed the idea of Guyana linking up with the USA. It was a derisive remark and the PPP must dissociate itself from it. America has been very supportive of Guyana on national security and other matters. Thus, Guyanese and our government should not make offensive remarks about USA.
The government’s newspaper should not be used to project anti-Americanism. A response to the commentary was not published in the Chronicle. Party and government officials who are anti-American and anti-Trump must be condemned. Guyana needs America for protection, trade, investment, remittances, and more. Yet Kissoon laughs at the idea of those who are promoting closer relations with USA. Kissoon’s derision derision does not help Guyana on tariff and security.
Most Guyanese, except crooked politicians, I engaged support the idea of a formal link up with USA. Kissoon enjoys a very close relationship with the PPP administration. The PPP should instruct Kissoon to cease and desist from anti American remarks. And the state paper should be not used to carry anti-American commentary as it could lead to American sanctions on Guyana and affect the presence of the large Guyanese community in USA. Kissoon can keep his anti-American ideas to himself and privately share them with his anti American friends, not the public.
Yours truly,
Dharamdatt Sukhai
