Dear Editor,
Is Trinidad ripe for invasion from hostile powers? Rogue countries bent on empire expansion? Narco traffickers tired of our greedy middlemen?
If you knew that fleets of Venezuelan boats could make landfall on our north coast with no intervention from coast guard, army or police, and if you knew one palm tree falling on a power line in Fyzabad could simultaneously knock out all power, all security and all telecommunications apparatus, if you knew the police service were set up to police safe zones and errant mask wearers and not much else, if Trinidad found its way to your list on the wall of your cave, your jungle hut, or your narco villa, how long would it take for you to decide?
The government’s failure to govern is now being overshadowed by their ability to account, and that is worrisome.
Plunging the nation into apocalyptic chaos for a day is one thing. Leaving it exposed and ripe to all manner of hostile invaders is something else that should keep all of us awake at night.
The comatose opposition and incompetent government creates a scenario where your children are not safe. Granny is in danger. Your worldly possessions at risk.
Voting ‘doh care’ or skin colour has serious consequences far beyond fighting for scraps falling from the 1% table.
Paying attention yet?
