In the heat of the night on January 2–3, 2026, the USA landed troops in Venezuela on the order of President Trump. There was some bombing, and Nicolás Maduro, the military President of Venezuela, was arrested and taken to USA to be tried for drug trafficking.
In Trinidad, the two major ethnic groups were at odds with each other after the UNC government allowed US troops to use Trinidad’s ports and airports to invade Venezuela. As you walked the streets of Trinidad, debates sounded like this between Trinidadian Blacks and Indo-Trinidadians.
Many Black Trinidadians argued that America is an imperialist country seeking Venezuela’s oil resources, and that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, by supporting President Trump, was placing Trinidad in jeopardy. They feared that if war broke out, Trinidad could be hit by Venezuelan missiles, arguing that this was not Trinidad’s fight but a UNC–Donald Trump conflict.
Many Indo-Trinidadians, who were sympathetic to Venezuelans living in Trinidad and who form the main base of support for the UNC government, supported the Kamla government and the USA. Venezuelans in Trinidad and around the world who suffered under the Maduro government could now return to Venezuela if they wished.
All the make-believe threats that Venezuela would starve Trinidad of oil and gas, or cancel joint oil development, would no longer apply and became null and void.
Prime Minister Kamla P. Persad-Bissessar, against great odds, hedged her bets and supported President Donald Trump in enforcing the Monroe Doctrine and protecting American interests and assets in Venezuela. This decision positioned the UNC government to work with the new Venezuelan administration on trade and oil projects, with the blessing of US President Donald Trump. The UNC government made the right choice for the people of Trinidad, a choice that would help Trinidad economically.
At the same time, I hope the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, develops an Indian doctrine to protect Indian and Hindu interests within the Indian subcontinent, including intervention in Bangladesh to protect Hindus and provide them with a Hindu state.
Prime Minister Modi must take note of how the USA, Russia, and China protect their people and interests. It is time for India to protect Hindus in Bangladesh before the situation becomes more difficult to deal with.
