*A legal firearm saves the day, yet the government continues their campaign against legal firearms*
As has been made abundantly clear, this Keith Rowley led government has an issue with legal firearms. And to add insult to injury, they spend more time and resources ‘going after’ legal firearms than illegal ones. This gives the perception that the government is aligned with criminal elements, and not law-abiding citizens.
Regrettably, a post on the TTPS’s Facebook page yesterday, feeds into the ‘attack legal firearms’ mindset, as they published a notice of the suspension of a single firearm’s licence. The notice was dated March 17th, and it only gave the user’s licence number, and no other identifying details.
Not fooled by the effort, comments on social media not only questioned the timing of the publication, it also questioned the value to the public, since no members of the public could have access to whose name is attached to a user’s licence number. It’s not like providing the public with cheque numbers that can be verified when conducting transactions, and besides, one would expect the suspension also comes with confiscation of the FUL book and the firearm itself, which again argues against sharing this information with the public.
One possible explanation for the publication, and the signed date on the notice however, may be as a response to the fact that a few days ago a legal firearm was used to protect and defend an individual, and others, against an attack by someone with an illegal firearm. A poor attempt, if indeed it was, since this is not an isolated incident, as in the past years many legal firearms were used to protect law-abiding citizens from attacks against themselves, their friends and families, and their property, by criminals.
Additionally, unlike what occurs in the USA, where basically everyone can acquire a firearm, a favourite response from those against legal firearms, the process for acquiring a FUL in TNT is extremely stringent, as I put 14 policies in place to properly screen applicants. This is why during my tenure, with over 50 thousand applicants, less than 5% of citizens who were not law enforcement, acquired an FUL. This amounts to about 0.18 of our country’s population. It is also why not one firearm was lost, and not one crime was committed, with a legal firearm issued during my tenure as CoP.
The reality is 99.5% of murders with the use firearms are committed with illegal firearms, and whilst the public exists in mortal fear, as they battle heavily armed criminals, because the state has failed to provide them safety and security, many of these same government officials who are engaged in this witch-hunt are protected by state provided armed details, and they also hypocritically have legal firearms to protect them and their loved ones as well.
So committed are they to this unrelenting attack on law-abiding citizens, that it recently came to light during a court case that the Minister of National Security tried to mislead the public by stating that ‘public disquiet’ was the reason for the government’s need to be involved in the FUL process. This simply wasn’t true, and the only disquiet came from the criminal elements.
Having shown that their loyalties lie more with criminals than law-abiding citizens, the public should not expect a course change until 2025, or before, when this Keith Rowley led government loses office.
